Removing Hiss and Hum from a Recording

Recordings made from older audio sources can often contain hiss or hum from the original source or degraded source media. WireTap Studio has a built in option for removing either hiss or hum from a recording.

To remove hiss or hum from a recording:

  1. Select a recording in the library and click on the Edit button, or simply double click the file.
    NOTE: To edit a file not recorded by WireTap Studio go to the File menu and select Open...
  2. Go to the Editor menu and select Remove Hiss to remove hiss, or Remove Hum to remove hum. Both options can be applied to the same recording if need be.
  3. To save your changes, either go to the File menu to Save, press command s, or close the recording and click on Save in the dialog presented.

The Remove Hum menu item applies the Apple AUHipass Audio Unit to the recording. The Remove Hiss menu item applies the Apple AULowpass Audio Unit to the recording.
